DESCRIPTION:
I mean really who doesn't love the crisp clean uplifting fragrance of real citrus fruits? The beauty of cold-pressed essential oils, which these are and as are most citrus essential oils, is they really smell just like the real deal when you squeeze the fresh lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit. But these are concentrated and have truly health giving benefits due to that concentrated oil that comes from pressing the rinds of citrus fruits.
INGREDIENTS:
Essential oils used in this blend include organic Pink grapefruit (Citrus paradisi), organic Tangerine (Citrus reticulata), Certified organic Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis), organic Lime (Citrus aurantifolia), organic Red Mandarin (Citrus deliciosa) and organic Clementine ((Citrus clementine), and organic Wild Orange ((Citrus sinensis).
SAFETY/USAGE:
Citrus oils should be organic - always and ours are. Why? Because these are concentrated products and the pesticides that are widely used both in the USA and other countries are concentrated in the rind of the fruit. A lot of people are insisting on using citrus oils internally and frankly, as a nurse and as a certified aromatherapist, I don't see the benefit in this, much less on a daily basis. Citrus oils are SOLVENTS and are widely used in the cleaning products you see everywhere. They are not soluble in water - so if you add them to water, they will not mix with the water and the essential oil residue will be put into direct contact with your easily burned mucous membranes of both your esophagus and stomach. Why do this really and why do some companies encourage people to do this other than to sell more oils? A fresh lemon or lime in my water may take a little more time than dropping an essential oil in my glass of water, but my fruit lasts for more than one glass of water, is not a concentrated solvent and doesn't overwhelm my digestive system, liver or kidneys. Think about it.
Topically this blend has the potential to be phototoxic due to some of the citrus oils included. For instance tangerine is not considered phototoxic and neither is orange, but the remaining oils are. This means that after applying this blend (diluted of course) to your skin, sunlight or sunbed rays should be avoided for at least 12 hours. These oils also can cause additional skin irritation if not cared for correctly. They can easily oxidize and should be stored in a cool, dark place and preferably in your refrigerator. We refrigerate all of our citrus oils. We do not add an antioxidant because then we could/would be accused of "adulterating" the oils, but we should suggest that you do add an antioxidant if you purchase a larger amount or are unable to keep it in a cool place.
