I use it often as a natural perfume diluted in a roller ball. We will be offering these soon on our website and in our shop. This is one of my very favorite essential oils, either singly or in a blend.

See the information above. We've gone back and forth from buying the USA distilled versus the ones from France. I used to keep both in stock, but honestly, I want to support our USA distillers and I can quite honestly say that just from the fragrance and depth - and softness of this last supply, I've definitely decided this is one of the best we've ever had. Clary Sage is one of my very favorite essential oils and I use it in a lot of my blends because it is so versatile and I also love to just use it as a personal perfume alone with nothing else to interfere with the soft scent. Some Clary Sage essential oils we've received down through the years did have a harsh note to them but I have kept good notes about that so that doesn't happen again. This is a fresh batch received late summer of 2019.  

As I continue to dream about having my own herbal farm, Clary Sage is one of those plants I would love to grow for distillation. I've read that it can survive in USDA Zone 5 temperatures (which is what we have here in Nebraska), but it is grown commercially in North Carolina. The essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering tops and as with many plants where the flowers are used, I was told that the flowers are collected toward the end of their blooming. I've often wondered just when that would be as I watch my echinacea blooms each summer trying to figure out just when that would be before they start to die back to pick them to include in my echinacea tincture. The levels of volatile oils are highest at this point and I'm also told that the weather has to be perfect as well - too hot will cause the volatile oils to evaporate. The other issue with growing anything in Nebraska is the humidity levels which (again so I'm told) can lower the yield of oil. But if it's grown successfully in North Carolina where the humidity is higher than Nebraska, I remain hopeful. I think this is what I love about gardening, collecting plants for herbal medicine and my hope to some day grow for distillation, the vagarities of climate, season, soil and nature itself are either a challenge or a friend.

NOTE: You will often see Clary sage oil contraindicated in pregnancy, though, according to Robert Tisserand, our go-to guy for accurate and updated information about essential oil safety, there is no supporting evidence for this.
