Alpha Lipoic Acid

If you haven’t read Dr. Nicholas Perricone’s #1 New York Times Best Seller, The Wrinkle Cure, Unlock the Power of Cosmeceuticals for Supple, Youthful Skin it is time to go pick up a copy. According to Dr. Perricone products containing DMAE (see more about DMAE below), Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C Ester, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Vitamin E and Retinol Vitamin A can create amazing results in the appearance of aging skin. According to research done by Dr. Perricone and others, DMAE is found in foods and can create an almost immediate appearance in the firming and tone of the skin. Vitamin C Ester is well known and long documented antioxidant that protects the surface of the skin from free radicals that can damage the skin. Alpha Lipoic Acid is the most powerful of antioxidants. It is able to benefit both the water and lipid portions of the skin. It is said to give the skin a “youthful and glowing appearance.” Retinol Palmitate (Vitamin A) nourishes the skin and assists in the “rejuvenation process that maintains a more youthful appearance.” Alpha Hydroxy Acids gently remove dead skin and provide an added antioxidant. In our formula we use the gentle and natural form of AHA’s that occur in natural fruit extracts. All of these ingredients work as a synergetic blend to create an effective and wonderful serum.

We have also added the benefits of Beta Carotene, CoQ10, Lecithin, Meadowfoam Seed Oil and Tocopherol (Vitamin E) to create a superior product line. Beta Carotene, also known as Pro-Vitamin A is found in plants and many animal tissues. It is a precursor to Vitamin A. Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is a vitamin-like substance acting similar to Vitamin E. However, research shows it is a more powerful antioxidant. CoQ10 is critical to the production of energy in every cell of the body. It aids in circulation, stimulates the immune system, increases tissue oxygenation, and has vital anti-aging effects. Coenzyme Q10 has exceptional antioxidant properties. Studies show that it can effectively counteract free radical damage and provide significant protection against UVA-induced depletion of cell membrane. In other words, it will prevent damage to collagen and elastin production process and help you avoid wrinkles. No cream that purports to have a biologically significant amount of Alpha Lipoic Acid and CoQ10 can be any other color than yellow to peach. Visit the cosmetic counter anywhere and examine our all the competitor’s so called “CoQ10 or ALA Creams.” They will appear white, no hint of peach or yellow at all. This is your signal they contain insignificant and ineffective amounts of CoQ10 or ALA.

Our facial serums can be used on the neck, face and around the lips and eyes. They can be applied in the morning as a step just prior to applying makeup. They can be used at night alone or just prior to using a moisturizer.

Ascorbyl Palmitate (Palmitic acid ester-Vitamin C Ester)

A salt of ascorbic acid. It is used as a preservative and antioxidant to prevent rancidity. Vitamin C is thought to prevent collagen break down and help combat the signs of aging. As an antioxidant it is believed to remove the free radicals that cells produce. Free radicals have been associated with skin cancer and premature skin aging due to sun exposure. Some experts believe antioxidants are the most vital weapons in the fight against aging. Most of the damage of our skin is caused by a free-radical assault from smoke, pollution and UV rays. Free radicals then turn the oils of our skin rancid, which damages the collagen. Collagen is the protein fibers that serve as the building blocks of our skin. Antioxidants are used in skin care products to neutralize free radicals before they ravage the skin. Topical vitamin C may help lighten solar lentigos and melasma. Some studies have shown that topical vitamin C provides additional protection against the harmful effects of the sun. Said to prevent collagen breakdown, which would aid in combating aging. Duke University found that adding Vitamin C and E to sunscreens protects against UVB radiation.

DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol)

DMAE is an amazing nutrient that extends the life of cells, inhibits the cross linking of proteins, which gives the skin a tone and firm appearance. The MSM & DMAE serum we offer is very light and can be put on over or under the makeup. We also use a hefty dose of DMAE in our Skin Renewal Intensive Facial Cream. The firm appearance that DMAE can bring to the skin occurs within about 20 minutes and wears off by the end of the day. DMAE has become very popular as a result of Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D.’s top-selling book, The Wrinkle Cure, in which he promotes supplementing with DMAE as a treatment for reducing wrinkles. When applied to the skin DMAE would stimulate acetylcholine release which would trigger a response in the muscles of the face. This activity creates a firmer facial tone and less sagging.

DMAE is one of the few nutrients that research studies have shown to extend the life of cells, but DMAE levels decrease dramatically with age. DMAE stabilizes the cell’s membrane and boosts the effects of other antioxidants. However, the main reason for adding DMAE to the Wrinkle Serum is due to its high level of acetylcholine, necessary for skin tone and firmness. When DMAE is applied topically it begins to work quickly (within minutes of application) and continues to firm and tone the skin over time.

Further information: dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) seems to improve the firmness of the skin and to help reduce the visual appearance of sagging skin (cutis laxa). DMAE is an amine-based alcohol, a precursor to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, DMAE is present in nerve tissue in small amounts and more abundant in fish. DMAE would act as a free radical scavenger due to the high electron content of its nitrogen atom. Once phosphorylated, DMAE is incorporated into the membrane of cells, protecting against the cell membrane protein cross-linking. In addition, DMAE is an immediate precursor to choline, which is involved in cell membrane biosynthesis. % DMAE facial gel applied daily for 16 weeks has been shown to be safe and efficacious in mitigating forehead lines and periorbital fine wrinkles, and in improving lip shape and fullness and the overall appearance of aging skin.

Emulsifying Wax NF

Plant based, used to create a bond between water and oil. A critical ingredient in lotions and cream since there is no other natural product that can create a smooth texture. An emulsifier is a chemical compound that joins oil and water and forms a stable mixture called an emulsion. The molecular structure of an emulsifier molecule is able to attract both a water and an oil molecule at different sites at the same time. Emulsifiers manufactured from plant fats have one or two fatty acids removed leaving one or two hydrophilic sites vacant on the glycerin molecule. The vacant locations on the glycerin molecule have a high affinity to water while the remaining fatty acid tails attract oily compounds. An emulsifier molecules act as intermediary to bind water and oil. The resulting compounds are called monogycerides and diglycerides which represent an important class of natural emulsifiers.

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

By Ann C Wooledge
on September 07, 2009

MSM, Methylsulfonylmethane, is a naturally occurring nutrient found in plants, meats, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. MSM is therefore found in the normal human diet. It is an odorless, tasteless, white water soluble, crystalline solid in its purified form. MSM supplies sulfur to the body which allows it to heal itself. It produces muscle relaxation and reportedly a whole host of beneficial qualities. It has been used with great success in eliminating chronic pain, muscle pain, repairing cut, scraped, burned and damage skin. We’ve seen reports of MSM eliminating wrinkles, brown spots, skin tumors, and spider veins. MSM is being used for burn victims and repairing scar tissue. Many people report relief from allergies after using MSM. Other reports indicate that MSM will remove parasites from the body, and help the body to detoxify itself. MSM is anti-inflamatory and anti-microbial. MSM feeds the formation of collagen and elastin while preventing and reducing cross-linking between cells, which is the primary cause of wrinkles and scar tissue. MSM is a natural sulfur compound that contributes to healthy skin, hair and nails. MSM has been used orally and topically to aid skin disorders. When used topically, in the form of a cream or lotion, sulfur is helpful in treating skin disorders including acne, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, scabies, diaper rash and certain fungal infections.
