Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) Organic Essential Oil
This essential oil truly is one of my favorites. There is nothing quite so refreshing, happy and uplifting as the scent of a fresh cut lime - which is what this essential oil smells like. It is cold-pressed from the rind so of course it smells just like that. The rind is where pesticides collect, so we are very picky about offering only organically grown citrus essential oils. There are many uses for this oil and lots of research that verifies the properties we've mentioned above. We don't advocate constant and frequent use of the internal intake of citrus oils, but in moderation and properly emulsified with something like honey, they do taste good and have some benefit. All citrus oils are, however, solvents - which is why you see the lemon and orange cleaners in the grocery store aisles. I love to blend orange, lemon, lime and pink grapefruit essential oils and use them in all of my cleaning products. See our blog about pink grapefruit here, much of which also applies to lime because it is also high in d-limonene.
See the information about safety and cautions as this oil does have phototoxic properties. We also carry steam distilled lime essential oil which is NOT phototoxic and has more of the essence of a lime lollipop. It has unique but somewhat different properties than the cold-pressed. We use the cold-pressed in our Fresh Lime Soap and our Bergamot & Lime bath and body products. We are careful with the concentration of our essential oils in these products and have done our homework to make them safe. With a wash-off product, there is little to no concern, but with the cream, we do suggest you not put it on and then go out into the direct sunlight or a sunbed for at least 12 to 24 hours.
