Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) Essential Oil

By Ann C Wooledge
on February 01, 2012

Truly this oil has been a wonderful surprise for me this past year. I simply discounted it for many many years because of its reputation as a strong skin irritant. It wasn't until I started digging more into the chemical makeup of oils and their individual properties did I realize how very beneficial this particular oil is. It has a much sweeter fragrance than cinnamon leaf or bark and has a high level of the chemical constituent mentioned above. Cinnamon Bark also has a high level of this constituent, but it is both more expensive and doesn't smell as good. The oil itself is somewhat dark and viscous. The common uses are about the same as the cinnamon spice, which has been gaining much popularity the past few years and for very good reasons. The reason I love this oil is that it has the sweet taste and smell that we are all familiar with - such as cinnamon chewing gum. Traditionally, this dried herb was used as a spice and the essential oil as a flavoring agent.  In traditional medicine it has been used for digestive complaints. Used much the same way as Cinnamon. We've added it to our cold & flu blends and cinnamon orange spice blends. Makes a very good room cleaner and antiseptic - see our air freshener. Perfect for day care, schools, locker rooms, hospitals, keyboards - all those places bacteria accumulate and stay so easily.

Blissful Babies Calendula & Chamomile Soap

By Ann C Wooledge
on January 13, 2012

Your pediatrician will often tell you NOT to use any "soap" on your baby's tender skin. This is because they don't know about handmade soap made the old-fashioned way without chemicals or other harmful ingredients. We go a step further and add only certified organic oils and certified organic shea butter. A LOT of shea butter as a matter of fact and you will find very few (if any) soapmakers who use as much shea butter or certified organic ingredients. This results in a very healthy choice that will protect and hydrate your baby's skin without disturbing the pH balance that is there to protect this new skin.

Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii)

Palmarosa Essential Oil (Cymbopogon martinii var. motia)

Palmarosa became one of my favorite essential oils this past year, after a decade of being ignored by me. I discovered while one of my family members was struggling with a yeast overgrowth that this particular essential oil contains a large percentage of a chemical constituent called "geraniol". Now why is that important? Mainly because there are research studies showing that geraniol is quite effective at inhibiting yeast, and specifically Candida in quite a few research studies, one of which is indicated below (1). Candida is a type of yeast that most often causes diaper rash, thrush, yeast overgrowth and other unpleasant things - yep, that one too.  It also has a very nice fragrance which has been likened to that of rose. I don't quite smell that in the samples I've tested, but it does blend well with other essential oils and is widely used in the fragrance industry. It reminds me of a combination of rose and geranium with maybe a little green note to it. I like it, but like it best when blended with other essential oils.

Palmarosa is a grass and a relative of the aromatic and culinary lemongrass. The leaves are distilled for their essential oil.

One of our most popular items in our organic, paraben-free, phthalate-free, gluten free, cruelty free, vegan line of luxurious products at very affordable prices.  Google other organic creams, lotions and soaps and you will see just how reasonably priced our products are, plus they are truly skin-healthy and therefore contribute to the overall health of you and your family.  Mix and match with our organic botanical soaps.

Mother Nature knows best - that's what we believe and that's how we purchase our ingredients and formulate our recipes. Our base is pure certified organic shea butter with 100% certified organic vegetable oils that we purchase from suppliers that we trust and know. We purchase unrefined, virgin oils that still retain all of nature's benefits that haven't been processed out of them. Our creams are naturally thick without artificial fillers and stiffeners you will see everywhere. Yes, it's less expensive to just make the product thick with chemicals, but we want healthy skin, so we use a large percentage of certified organic shea butter instead. We include certified organic skin-healthy herbs that we infuse at low temperatures for weeks and pure essential oils that are natural anti-free-radical ingredients known to protect your skin from aging and environmental toxins.  It is difficult to find a product with as many unprocessed ingredients as ours, as well as being organic. Choose unscented or one of our uniquely blended true aromatherapy choices using only 100% pure essential oils.

You asked – we listened. We are now offering all of our creams in the convenient sizes listed above, and also in bottles!

Handcrafted Oakmoss & Olive Leaf Soap

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 29, 2009

Awesome fragrance that leaves a clean, fresh and not over-powering drift of fragrance after using. Oakmoss is a wonderful clean fragrance for both women or men, but the men particularly love it. We’ve added olive leaf powder to give it the beautiful green color and to add to its beneficial properties. Olive leaf powder is believed to have antibacterial properties and studies suggest that it can increase circulation and healing of the skin.

Handmade Almond & Oats Soap

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 29, 2009

If you like the fragrance of almonds and if you like “scrubby” soaps that are extremely beneficial for your skin as they clear off that dead layer of skin, you will love this soap. The beauty of handcrafted soap, especially with the high percentage of shea butter we add, is that the pH of your skin is balanced and not stripped as it is with commercial soaps. We’ve added organic oats to contribute to the scrubbiness, as well as organic ground almonds. The oats have their own contribution to these skin-healthy ingredients.

I have to tell you, we've tried very many almond fragrance oils but none of them gave me that same pleasant aroma that real almond extract does - you know the kind you use in cooking. I always add almond extract to most of the Christmas cookies I make because I love the taste. Well - we recently tested a new almond fragrance that is, if possible, stronger than almond extract.  And the even better news is that it came through in the cold process soap very nicely - good, strong, but not overwhelming, warm fragrance of almonds. This is definitely a keeper.

Organic Unrefined Tamanu Oil

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 29, 2009

Calophyllum inophyllum, also known as Foraha oil, is one of nature’s miracles. This oil has a beautiful, rich, nutty fragrance, that some have likened to that of butter pecan. It has a rich, thick, deep dark green color. Tamanu oil has a long history of research and anecdotal use. It is many things for many people. It soothes the skin, relieves irritation and inflammation, can help regenerate skin cells. Research has documented its strong anti-inflammatory action and we have used it successfully for eczema, rosacea and acne. My daughter, granddaughter and I started using it in place of tea tree oil on our faces and we now have many followers using this oil. For more detail and history of this amazing oil, please check our website’s page on ingredients. We are also offering this popular oil with the addition of Ravensara essential oil which has documented research for its ability to give relief to those suffering with shingles. If you do an internet search you will find that our price is reasonable and this is an undiluted, unrefined and certified organic product – many sell it diluted with cheaper oils – please don’t fall for that trick.
