Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) Essential Oil

By Ann C Wooledge
on February 01, 2012

Truly this oil has been a wonderful surprise for me this past year. I simply discounted it for many many years because of its reputation as a strong skin irritant. It wasn't until I started digging more into the chemical makeup of oils and their individual properties did I realize how very beneficial this particular oil is. It has a much sweeter fragrance than cinnamon leaf or bark and has a high level of the chemical constituent mentioned above. Cinnamon Bark also has a high level of this constituent, but it is both more expensive and doesn't smell as good. The oil itself is somewhat dark and viscous. The common uses are about the same as the cinnamon spice, which has been gaining much popularity the past few years and for very good reasons. The reason I love this oil is that it has the sweet taste and smell that we are all familiar with - such as cinnamon chewing gum. Traditionally, this dried herb was used as a spice and the essential oil as a flavoring agent.  In traditional medicine it has been used for digestive complaints. Used much the same way as Cinnamon. We've added it to our cold & flu blends and cinnamon orange spice blends. Makes a very good room cleaner and antiseptic - see our air freshener. Perfect for day care, schools, locker rooms, hospitals, keyboards - all those places bacteria accumulate and stay so easily.

Calendula Chamomile All Purpose Herbal Balm

By Ann C Wooledge
on November 10, 2009

Herbal Balm – perfect for gardeners!

What's new about our herbal balm? Check it out here and see what we've added to make this already very effective balm into an even more absolute necessity in your medicine cabinet.

Includes Certified organic Chamomile, Calendula & Helichyrsum flowers infused in certified organic extra virgin olive oil. We’ve been infusing our own organic oils – using certified organic extra virgin olive oil and organic botanicals. By doing this we know that the oil has been infused at the highest level possible to extract all the beneficial properties. We go above and beyond the normal and infuse the oil longer and at low temperatures.

Calendula is an important folk medicine plant, often used for treating inflamed tissue. During the Civil War, doctors used calendula leaves to treat open wounds on the battlefield. Calendula flower is among the most soothing of herbs for salves. Herbalist Aviva Romm, author of Natural Healing for Babies and Children (Crossing Press, 1996), uses it along with chickweed (Stellaria media), plantain (Plantago spp.), comfrey (Symphytum officinale) and chamomile (Matricaria recutita) to soothe children’s skin. There is a study of calendula for wounds that showed it to noticeably stimulate physiological regeneration and skin healing. Then top all of that - we also add the essential oils of high altitude Lavender, Tea Tree, Roman Chamomile and German Chamomile - all well known for their comforting, anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii)

Palmarosa Essential Oil (Cymbopogon martinii var. motia)

Palmarosa became one of my favorite essential oils this past year, after a decade of being ignored by me. I discovered while one of my family members was struggling with a yeast overgrowth that this particular essential oil contains a large percentage of a chemical constituent called "geraniol". Now why is that important? Mainly because there are research studies showing that geraniol is quite effective at inhibiting yeast, and specifically Candida in quite a few research studies, one of which is indicated below (1). Candida is a type of yeast that most often causes diaper rash, thrush, yeast overgrowth and other unpleasant things - yep, that one too.  It also has a very nice fragrance which has been likened to that of rose. I don't quite smell that in the samples I've tested, but it does blend well with other essential oils and is widely used in the fragrance industry. It reminds me of a combination of rose and geranium with maybe a little green note to it. I like it, but like it best when blended with other essential oils.

Palmarosa is a grass and a relative of the aromatic and culinary lemongrass. The leaves are distilled for their essential oil.

Blissful Babies Boo Boo Bottom Balm

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 29, 2009

This is one of our family’s favorites! It contains organic oils we infuse ourselves. Take a look here at what's new in our balms and the improvements we've made.

We use a longer infusion process at low temperatures to assure you receive all the beneficial properties nature meant to be there. This blend is a beautiful mix of organic beeswax, plus the infused oils of calendula, chamomile, and helichrysum flowers – all well-known for their healing properties and gentleness for baby’s bottom. We then add a little True Lavender (high altitude - the best!) essential oil, Roman and German Chamomile essential oils, well known for their calming and anti-inflammatory benefits and certified organic Tea Tree - all of which are well-documented for their healing properties. There’s just enough beeswax to give healing protection and barrier plus this balm has soothing aromatherapy fragrance for those restless times or sleepy times. Diaper rash is often caused by yeast, specifically Candida, and our balm contains oils and essential oils that have been proven to fight against this heart-breaking invader. Ask me some time about my middle granddaughter's issues with diaper rash quite a few years ago. One jar will last a long time. We’ve used this on all of our grandchildrens' (well, the ones we've been blessed with in the past 10 years)  “hard-to-get-rid-of” diaper rash and the rash was gone overnight.  We have many customers who tell us the rash is gone by the next diaper change. Our granddaughters have been known to tells US to use it if they started to get sore!  Really!  And even at the age of five - our youngest granddaughter (long since potty trained) still tells me to bring the "boo-boo balm" when I come, and if I'm not coming when they run out to send it SOON. It helps soothe the itch of mosquito bites or "boo-boos" when she falls and scrapes her knees.
