It has been a tradition in our family to have peppermint candy canes on our Christmas trees for as long as I remember having Christmas! As an adult, my Mom made me an Advent Calendar with pockets for each day of the month of December and in each pocket we’d place a small candy cane. When my daughter was little, she would delight in eating one of the candy canes as each day passed. The rules were that you couldn’t eat the candy cane until that day came. We’ve carried this tradition down with our grandchildren – although now that there are 5, it’s more difficult to put that many peppermint candy canes in each pocket and truth be told, we don’t see them every day. Regardless, candy canes and Christmas go together…well…like a horse and a carriage!
