Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) Organic Essential Oil

Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) Organic Essential Oil

This essential oil truly is one of my favorites. There is nothing quite so refreshing, happy and uplifting as the scent of a fresh cut lime - which is what this essential oil smells like. It is cold-pressed from the rind so of course it smells just like that. The rind is where pesticides collect, so we are very picky about offering only organically grown citrus essential oils. There are many uses for this oil and lots of research that verifies the properties we've mentioned above. We don't advocate constant and frequent use of the internal intake of citrus oils, but in moderation and properly emulsified with something like honey, they do taste good and have some benefit. All citrus oils are, however, solvents - which is why you see the lemon and orange cleaners in the grocery store aisles. I love to blend orange, lemon, lime and pink grapefruit essential oils and use them in all of my cleaning products. See our blog about pink grapefruit here, much of which also applies to lime because it is also high in d-limonene.

See the information about safety and cautions as this oil does have phototoxic properties. We also carry steam distilled lime essential oil which is NOT phototoxic and has more of the essence of a lime lollipop. It has unique but somewhat different properties than the cold-pressed. We use the cold-pressed in our Fresh Lime Soap and our Bergamot & Lime bath and body products. We are careful with the concentration of our essential oils in these products and have done our homework to make them safe. With a wash-off product, there is little to no concern, but with the cream, we do suggest you not put it on and then go out into the direct sunlight or a sunbed for at least 12 to 24 hours.

Handcrafted Ocean Mist Soap

I'm not good at describing fragrances, but this is how the supplier describes the original scent - "seductive, daring, rugged and robust muguet (lily-of-the-valley) but it also has the coolness, purity of the sea." And added to that it is "balanced with sandalwood and oak moss" and "deepened with spice notes of cloves and nutmeg." Whew - I don't know that I can smell all of that, but it is a very subtle, clean, fresh scent and I think it will be a keeper.

Organic Arnica Infused Herbal Oil

Infused Arnica montana herbal oil

This is THE oil to turn to for inflammed arthritic joints, bones, bruises, contusions or just sore muscles. We've written more about this oil, its constituents and some research attributing these properties to this infused/macerated oil. This is not an essential oil - this is a fixed carrier oil. The Arnica montana flowers are certified organic and we've infused them for at least 3 weeks at low steady temperatures to insure that these proven benefits are retained. See our blog here for more information.

We use this oil along with the organic infused oils of calendula, chamomile, helichyrsum and St. John's Wort in our Spicey Muscle Oil (along with a very well-researched and effective blend of warming essential oils.

    Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) Essential Oil

    By Ann C Wooledge
    on February 01, 2012

Truly this oil has been a wonderful surprise for me this past year. I simply discounted it for many many years because of its reputation as a strong skin irritant. It wasn't until I started digging more into the chemical makeup of oils and their individual properties did I realize how very beneficial this particular oil is. It has a much sweeter fragrance than cinnamon leaf or bark and has a high level of the chemical constituent mentioned above. Cinnamon Bark also has a high level of this constituent, but it is both more expensive and doesn't smell as good. The oil itself is somewhat dark and viscous. The common uses are about the same as the cinnamon spice, which has been gaining much popularity the past few years and for very good reasons. The reason I love this oil is that it has the sweet taste and smell that we are all familiar with - such as cinnamon chewing gum. Traditionally, this dried herb was used as a spice and the essential oil as a flavoring agent.  In traditional medicine it has been used for digestive complaints. Used much the same way as Cinnamon. We've added it to our cold & flu blends and cinnamon orange spice blends. Makes a very good room cleaner and antiseptic - see our air freshener. Perfect for day care, schools, locker rooms, hospitals, keyboards - all those places bacteria accumulate and stay so easily.

    Yeasty Beasty Essential Oil Blend

    By Ann C Wooledge
    on September 20, 2010

This is a unique and well-researched blend of powerful essential oils to fight against molds and yeast issues. I developed this blend many years ago, but have recently added some additional oils after reading some recent research about dill essential oil. Finalizing this blend became urgent in our household as my husband acquired a systemic yeast overgrowth resulting in constant itching. He was miserable and so was I as we tried to go to sleep at night. He actually tore a hole in one of our sheets because he would be constantly rubbing his feet together to relieve the itching. We then recently had two separate occasions when friends had flooding in their basements with subsequent mold overgrowth, which can be quite dangerous resulting in serious respiratory difficulties.

We seem to have more and more people calling us asking about Candida and telling us that "nothing is working." I'm not sure why this is more common, but we do know that sugar, refined carbs such as white rice and packaged/processed foods feed yeast. As always, what you put IN your body is even more important than what you put ON your body. However, this blend has proven to be very effective in controlling and stopping the signs and symptoms of yeast overgrowth and Candida. The research shows that Dill Weed Oil alone kills several different types of mold. Please email me at annrn@wingsets.com if you'd like a copy of this research.

Herbal Insect Deterrent Spray - DEET-Free

    By Ann C Wooledge
    on April 26, 2010

REPELS flies, fleas, mosquitoes, chiggers and spiders! Proven effective on mosquitoes even in Africa and Northern Minnesota. NATURAL & ORGANIC INGREDIENTS. Also works to keep bugs off your dog! NOT FOR USE ON CATS.

Skin-soothing organic aloe vera and witch hazel base that doesn't leave a sticky, uncomfortable residue as other insect repellents do. The natural essential oils have been researched and proven to be effective by organic farmers and aromatherapy professionals who prefer a natural choice that is DEET-free. This blend has been used all over the world and has been proven effective. It was used by the Bell South workers after Katrina as they restored telephone service to the area months following the hurricane.

Please note the following concerning EPA registration numbers as our product contains exempt ingredients:

Registered or Exempt Pesticides: Under FIFRA, any product making a pesticidal claim must be registered with EPA, in order to review products for reasons of human health and environmental safety. An exception to this rule exists for products based on certain active ingredients (the “25b list,” named for that section of FIFRA), which are considered minimum risk products. These products will not have an EPA registration number, and usually have a statement to the effect that “the manufacturer represents that this product qualifies for exemption from FIFRA.” For exempt pesticides, all inert ingredients must be on EPA List 4A, and must be disclosed on the label. Many exempt products, but not all, meet the requirements of the USDA National Organic Program.

Herbal Pets Insect Deterrent Spray - DEET-Free

    By Ann C Wooledge
    on April 26, 2010

This product was, as are all of our products, formulated for practical applications. We had already blended and used our Deet-free Herbal Insect Repellent in a personal-care spray and cream, but realized we were using it on our dogs as much as ourselves. It truly became evident one summer when the flies literally were causing open areas on Abby's nose that I needed to do a little more research. It kept the fleas and ticks off of her, but not the flies. I did some more research on flies and essential oils and tweaked our original formula - it worked! I can say that for the past 10 years the flies haven't bothered our dogs. The pet insect repellent blend is available in either a distilled-water based or organic aloe vera base for those pets who might have sensitive skin or skin issues. Our house backs up to a wooded area off the city bike trail and ticks, flies, fleas, chiggers and mosquitoes are frequent visitors in our neck of the woods - but not on us or our dogs. We knew we wanted a natural, Deet-free, choice for our dogs as well as us, and after reading the chemical-laden ingredients on most of the pet collars on the market - knew we had made the right choice.
