Bay Rum (Pimenta racemosa) Wildcrafted

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 31, 2009

Bay Rum Essential Oil

There are several varieties of Bay Rum, each having totally different chemical compositions. Bay Rum should also not be confused with Bay Laurel, a common culinary spice found in most of our spice racks. Bay Rum should never be taken orally and can be a skin sensitizer and should be used in moderation only. Our products use a very small percentage of Bay Rum for fragrance mostly, as it is a well-known, and well-respected men’s scent.

For more information about this oil, you will find the more abbreviated version on Bay Rum in our blog and detailed and researched information in our Essential Oil Database.

Basil Essential Oil (Ocimum basilicum)

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 31, 2009

Essential Oil of Basil (Ocimum basilicum):

Basil is one of those oils that has many different varieties, 150 actually according to Dr. Valnet. Those of us who use culinary basil know this to be true for at least 20 to 30 varieties. Each year I plant different varieties, such as cinnamon basil or lemon basil, but always end up going back to the largest leaf basil I can find because we mostly use it to make pesto and I’m basically lazy. The oil of basil is, of course, different. The parts used and distilled for basil oil are the flowering tops – those that we culinary artists discard – and the leaves. Because of all the different varieties, we have attempted to proclaim those attributes and benefits specific to the majority of the varieties available.
Not to be confused with a herb called Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum), known as Tulsi. If you go to India, you will see holy basil growing in profusion around Hindu temples. It comes in red and green varieties, both with a strong, pleasant aroma. Not the same scent as culinary basil, holy basil has been used for centuries to treat a variety of medical conditions including heart problems, asthma, bronchitis, and arthritis.

Organic Turbinado Brown Sugar & Citrus Scrub

By Melody Hansen
on August 31, 2009

This is the best aromatherapy exfoliant/anti-cellulite around.  Works for all skin types.  Salts can sometimes be too abrasive for those of us with sensitive skin – but this works nicely.  Leaves a warm, silken glow after using. My daughter who has eczema was the first to use this and it worked great for her.  I’ve found with my extremely dry skin that no amount of the best creams available will do any good if I don’t exfoliate regularly. We’ve also included a blend of pure essential oils well known and documented for their relaxing and uplifting benefits.

Women's Silk Deodorant Body Powder

Our natural, talc-free powder is excellent for babies, men and women. It contains arrowroot and wheat-free tapioca starch to keep your skin dry and cool, baking soda to soothe inflammation, and zinc oxide to eliminate bacteria-causing odor. Available unscented, or scented with a combination of 100% essential oils. Low dust when applying; little waste! The same blend as our Lavender Powder except we also added therapeutic aromatherapy blends that will keep you feeling fresh throughout the day. These are great for your finest lingerie drawer, under your pillow or in your closet. Personally, my husband and I now use this powder as our ONLY deodorant and it seriously works great. We both work and play outdoors, keep our air conditioner off as much as possible and frankly we were surprised that it work so well as a personal deodorant, as well as being very affective for chafing.

Women's Organic Bath & Massage Oil

By Melody Hansen
on August 31, 2009

A decadent blend of five of the best and most beneficial massage oils made even more therapeutic with the addition of 100% pure essential oils. This synergy makes for a true spa experience. We use the very finest blend of oils for massage with excellent “slide” properties without feeling greasy. It absorbs easily, but at the right pace for a good massage.  Only 100% essential oils are used, making these blends aromatherapy at its best. Add a tablespoon of honey and put a little in your bath water for a luxurious treat!  The honey emulsifies the oil so it doesn’t float on the top. Also available unscented.

Moisturizing Mineral Dead Sea Bath Salts

By Melody Hansen
on August 31, 2009

Bath salts made with pure essential oils, Epsom, Dead Sea Salts and our latest addition - Pink Himalayan salts! Dead Sea Salts contain magnesium (increases cell vitality and speeds healing), bromide (acts as a soothing antiseptic), potassium (improves the flow of nutrients through cell membranes), calcium (calms and assists with mineral balance), and sodium (provides energy for cell moisture). Dead Sea Salts help to strengthen the immune system, detoxify, improve circulation, relieve aches and pains, soften and heal the skin, reduce fatigue, and release tension. Here is a link to a CNN review of the effectiveness of Dead Sea Salt. The bath salts also aid in opening the skin’s pores to allow the essential oils to penetrate the skin. We’ve added natural and pure essential oils in several different blends to match your mood or enhance your mood. Essential oils have healing properties that reach you through your sense of smell and by being absorbed through your cells. Our bath “salts” DO NOT contain regular sea salt which is often used as an inexpensive filler and simply dries out your skin. The other issue with any "sea salts" is that our oceans are, unfortunately, becoming polluted and with sea salts you have no way of knowing the level of pollution you will be soaking in - not my choice.

Our most recent addition of Pink Himalayan salts was something we had been wanting for awhile. We discovered them mainly through our reading and research about raw foods, but quickly realized what a great addition they would be to the bath salts! They are expensive though and we searched for quite awhile before finding what we considered to be a reasonable price and a good supplier - so we've added them! Himalayan salt is actually hand mined from areas in Pakistan and reported to contain the highest mineral and trace element content of ANY salt in the world - like 14%!  And even better than that, these minerals and trace elements are in the same proportions as the elements of the human body. The literature tells us that the salt is also unique in that it is believed to be a living crystal and gives off vibrational energy at the same frequency as the human body does. Under a microscope it is in a perfect crystalline form. Dr. Mercola has included it on his list of must have products saying that it regulates the water content of the body, promotes healthy pH, and reduces signs of aging. You can read more about it on his website and we will be adding all of our combined information on our Ingredients Information Page.

Borage Hot Oil Hair Therapy

By Ann C Wooledge
on August 31, 2009

Perfect for that dry, itchy scalp!
This oil therapy penetrates the hair shaft right away because the molecules are naturally small – unlike products on the shelves today.  This luxurious natural oil blend with shea butter, borage-infused oil, emu oil and pure essential oils will restore your hair’s natural beauty & health. This aromatherapy blend is not your ordinary hair conditioner, and should be reserved for damaged and over-processed hair.  Jojoba & borage oils are considered to be superior nutrient conditioners and promise to leave hair revitalized and more manageable.  Lavender & rosemary pure essential oils have been proven to stimulate the scalp and assist hair growth.
The results of one research study suggest that the essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood mixed with an oil and applied on the areas of hair loss may potentially stimulate hair growth. This double blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled 84 people who massaged either these essential oils or a non-treatment oil into their scalps each night for seven months. Results showed that 44% of people in the treatment group had new hair growth compared to only 15% in the control group.
